whenever I open a new tab the site address is replaced with "search or enter address" and automatically prepares me to type in the address. this means I can't copy the site address of the website I'm on as there is nothing I can copy.

This happens only in one website?

Try Start FIrefox in Safe Mode:

I actually restored Firefox to it's original settings and it still happens, It happens on most websites but the address shows up again when I go on to another tab and go back to that one. it's very odd. =/

There might be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
