I just updated to Firefox 19 and now, sporadically, text has become difficult to read. It's noticible in emails, on Facebook, etc. It corrects itself if I click on the start menu or on another area of the page but the text starts out as very jumbled and hard to interpret - unclear, if you will.

This is brand new with Firefox 19.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

I completed the reset that Tylerdowner suggested above. To no avail. Text is still unclear.

For me, the text rendering started being ugly today. Here is a screenshot of the result, with ClearType disabled (I initially though it was related to ClearType).

The OS is Windows 7 and the graphics card is a Radeon HD 4870 with recent drivers (november 2012).

It looks like they're aware of it but they can't fix it fast enough for me. I'll be using other browsers in the mean time.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Does disabling hardware acceleration work? I removed the Windows Platform update and IE10 in order to make it work. I'd prefer to put them back on if disabling hardware acceleration is a viable solution.

I am having the same exact text issue with 19.0

Disabling the hardware acceleration worked for me. They need to fix this issue so I can continue to use the resources of my computer instead of having to wait for the software to run everything. For people that play browser games with a lot of resources being used, disabling will lag the game and can cause potential problems. I will be using chrome and opera until they fix this broken browser.

I have this problem. It gets worse if I go to mthe bottom of the page and then scroll up again. If I then highlight the text it corrects itself. Does not happen with IE or Chrome on same computer.

I have the same problem (FF 19), but if you type "about:config" on adres bar and find "gfx.content.azure.enabled", then set this as "false" (duble click), then all text looks fine too.

Marficzech's solution seems to work as well. I have re-enabled hardware acceleration and will monitor for any changes.

Back to 18 for me. I don't want to disable acceleration. Glad it isn't just me.

Warbler, try Marficzech's solution: type about:config on address bar and find gfx.content.azure.enabled, then set this as false (duble click), then all text looks fine. No need to disable acceleration.
