I would like to clear my browsing history of everything, but I want to keep my bookmarks and the form data. The bookmarks should be separate from the browser history and cookies anyway, but they are not.

Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox when clearing the history check all the items except "Form & Search Bar History" . Bookmarks can't be deleted when clearing history.

Yes, it does. When I cleared everything except the "form data" and "active logins". I lost all of my bookmarks. All recently bookmarked addresses were cleared. In the book mark menu, everything was cleared except for the folders. The folder contents were cleared.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Hi, I found the instructions to back-up the bookmarks. After backing up the new bookmarks, I tried clearing the history with no add-ons. It worked, and my bookmarks are still there. Thanks. Are there any themes that do not cause these problems?

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
