Error Message: background service error restore
When I try to turn on VPN, I get the error message "background service error restore". "Restore" is a link, but when I click it, nothing happens. The error message goes away, but VPN does not turn on. I have tried restarting, and I am running the most updated version. If it matters, I'm running Windows 10Pro Version 10.0.19042 Build 19042. How do I get past this so it works again? Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
Thank you for reaching out, I am sorry to hear about this issue!
I suggest you try the following: Sign out of the Mozilla VPN (you can do this by going to the gear icon on the top right of the application, then scrolling down to "Sign out"), uninstalling it, re-downloading it, and reinstalling it. The sign out is an important part of the process due to deleting some files that otherwise don't get purged. This usually resolves these kinds of issues.
If this does not help, we will need some more information to assist you. Please contact us directly to help you: Open Mozilla VPN and click the Settings vpn settings icon icon. Click Get Help. Click Contact us. A tab will open with a contact form. You might need to log in to Firefox Accounts first.
When contacting us, please let us know what operating system (Windows 10, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS) and device you are using.
Regards, M
Thanks for the suggestion MagsMoz. I tried logging out, uninstalling, then downloading a fresh copy and reinstalling, but unfortunately it did not work. I have contacted support. Thank you for giving clear steps for that as well. I wasn't sure where to find the support form, so that helped a lot.
I have the same issue and have tried a fresh install (macOS Big Sur, MacBook Air (M1, 2020). When I follow the steps to get to the contact form I just get dropped onto the settings page (https://accounts.firefox.com/settings). Any ideas?
