Background Service Error on Mozilla VPN -- Ubuntu 20.04

Installing the Firefox VPN client on my Ubuntu 20.04 system has been an interesting process. Now, though, when I turn on the VPN, I get a red banner in the window with a notice of a "background service error." It then disconnects from the VPN. The restore link does nothing. I've also tried running the client as sudo but that didn't work. Any ideas from anyone?

Our development team is investigating this issue, but we do not have a solution for it at this time. We can notify you when we have found a fix.
