The example image shows the searched link, yet not showing the folder where is located.

Still looking for a way to search saved bookmarks then show where the bookmark is located in the bookmark folder structure. A keyword search lists all the bookmarks, then RIGHT CLICK menu Go to Folder, or show where in all the 2000+ bookmarks it is in the list.

'"Show Parent Folder" 'is what Firefox should have built in, but an updated add on would be helpful.

Note that this extension is available via AMO:

It is easier to open the bookmark in a tab (possibly in work offline mode) and click the highlighted star to edit the bookmark. Click arrow at the far right of the Folder line and use the scroll bar to find which folder is highlighted to locate a bookmark.

Is there any Coder on Planet Earth that can do this besides Humberto Lezama? What;s it going to take? I'll be glad to pay someone to code this function in FireFox.

Extension upgrades Folks,

I have received couple of inquiries regarding future upgrades/enhancemente to the bookmarks extension. I'm afraid that they won't happen in the near term :/ I'm out of time at the moment...but that is the wonderful thing about open source.. one of you can take the extension and make it better. I really don't care about getting credit or money for it, just take it, rip it appart and share your enhancements :)"

Hi, that did not name the add-on though. He is with Microsoft for 10+ yrs so if out of time, is out of time. Since the code is open source maybe you can find someone to use it that will not effect Firefox Security.

There possibly is something close to that that you can search for off of this page https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bookmarks-manager-and-viewer/

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thank you for the reply, that add-on is better than nothing.

This is what I did.

Installed "Show Parent Folder" add-on, - this add-on will show the parent folder name of the URL you are looking for, but if that parent folder is also the child of the main folder, the add-on does not show the folder hierarchy, it can be tedious to locate which main folder unless you remember where it is, here is the example:

Main Parent - Child Folder (parent of URL) - URL

To make this better, I renamed all the main parent folders in the Bookmarks Bar, where I added "(m)" to each folder name (no quotes). The "m" means main.

Once done, I exported the bookmarks into an HTML file and saved it on my Desktop.

I also have installed Notepad++ as this makes this part very simple. (It's better than Windows Notepad).

I then go into the bookmarks manager with the add-on activated. I search for the URL using keywords (of course), when I find the URL, the "parent folder" is listed. I remember the name of that parent folder.

If that parent folder name is not the main folder along the bookmarks bar and it is instead a child folder, then I open the bookmark.html file in notepad++, I search for the parent folder name listed by the add-non. When it finds it, I click the cursor in the same spot, then open Notepad++ find, type in "(m)", no quotes, then I hold the SHIFT key down and click the "Find" button and that searches the first "(m)" characters upward and viola the main parent folder name.

Yes it is somewhat involved, but once setup, works like a charm.

PS: If the URL you find does not show as the blue star in the URL box, where it seems it was not saved as a book mark, yet you found it in your Booksmark manager, this lack of the blue star is because the URL is a bit different than when you saved it or the name of the bookmark is different.

There was an AD on the page that blended with the website page layout. That made it appear it was selling the plugin for $99/month.

One sad thing about including Ads on a website, unless the layout of the page makes it clear what is an Ad and what belongs to the content of the page, it can be very misleading, as I have experienced many times on the Internet.

So, I stand corrected and I removed my post about it.

It is free plugin, I went to the second link provided by cor-el.

Sorry - and thanks. Yes that plugin resolves the matter. Still the method I used can be held as a backup method in the event add-ons go wrong in FireFox.

Good point, thanks for the backup alternative.
