firefox is good, but it sometimes crashes when i browse sites with large news feeds & lots of flash video clips. more specifically, the flash plugin has a problem. in addition, it occupies a lot of cpu power, even when no videos r displayed. now i'm just writing this text, and there's no active elements on this page, still the cpu utilization is some 50%. how do i fix it? i see these options 1. wipe firefox completely, including all files & registry entries, then install some good old version of both firefox & flash (no idea, which of them is the best) 2. remove the shockwave flash v26, and use some other plugins to display flash (if there's any) 3. forget using firefox, as chrome seems 2 run better now what is your advice?

Hi, you could try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. You will need to restart Firefox for this to take effect so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options on Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux.
  2. Select the Advanced panel and then the General tab.
  3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  4. Restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

If the problem is resolved, you should check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in these Knowledge base articles:

Also, disable hardware acceleration in Flash, and/or disable Flash protected mode - Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!
