Downloading the latest version of Firefox on Windows 10 (Surface Book) made my internet speed take a nosedive. Didn't matter what wifi I was on, pages would hang and never load. Or it would take a refresh to make them load (maybe a few refreshes).

Chrome is working effortlessly and reliably. Firefox will work for a few minutes and then pages will hang again.

I downgraded back to the previous version but this is still happening.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?

Troubleshooting plugins and extensions haven't worked. I'll try the profile manager to refresh or recreate my profile.

After closing the browser and trying to reopen it, I often get a desktop pop-up that says Firefox is still running and asks if I want to close it. Then I get a crash report dialog. Occasionally I also get a pop-up saying that my profile couldn't be loaded, so I'm hoping that's where the issue is.

After shutting down any program, give it time to do a proper shutdown before you try to restart it. About 20 - 30 seconds.
