Thunderbird States "Connected to <pop server>" but the password dialog box never appears

I've tried dl'ing TB 38.2 for desktop windows 7

For "Get Messages" it will dns resolve the pop server, then says it is connected to the pop server, but the password dialog box never appears.

The same happens for the latest TB portable.

As far as sending mail as a test - it dns resolves the smtp server the pops up that the connection timed out (in less than 5 seconds)

A second attempt to send email yields - the connection was lost in the middle of the transaction

repeated attempt to send yield the two pop-ups alternatively.

Additionally, I am trying to connect from a public library, to a major ISP

I've tried "No proxy" I've tried "Auto-detect proxy" I've tried "Use system proxy"

No luck. The the ISP is clueless about TB. If it's not outlook, they blame TB.

I believe that TB is not popping up a login window because there is an invalid ssl cert being served to TB.

I think.

Many public Internet access places block mail ports for security reasons. so your issue could simply be that you are trying to do this from a public library.

However, you should still be able to access your webmail account via a browser. Web-based email will work because it uses http/https.

Thanks for the response

I'm at the same library and same computer right now and I can get the password dialog box now.

Last night I could not.

Earlier in the day I could.

I am really suspecting the SSL certificate at this point. The suspected one being served is "FortiGate CA"
