Received a message which had been directed to a number of recipients and wanted to Reply All:, however that exceeded my limit on number of addresses for To: and Thunderbird would not accept that.

I went through a process establishing a means of having emails being sent to multiple recipients automatically being addressed bcc

That's possibly an an add-on you installed.

As part of this process I set a limit on the number of recipients whom would be addressed as "To:."

That's nothing Thunderbird has built-in afaik. Check your add-ons and any settings you may have made there.

Thunderbird would not accept that.

What exactly does this mean?

How many recipients are we talking about?

At some point I went through a process establishing a means of having emails being sent to multiple recipients automatically being addressed bcc (undisclosed recipients) so that individual recipients addresses would not be displayed. As part of this process I set a limit on the number of recipients whom would be addressed as "To:." I've forgotten how I accessed this bcc instruction area. I remember the limit I set as being four.Today I received an email addressed to a group of 12 recipients, when I attempted to Reply All, Thunderbird, based on my instructions, hiccuped and refused to do so. I know there is a way to countermand this instruction but I've forgotten.
