I am experiencing a weird discrepancy in the reported version numbers for Showckwave Flash.

If I go to the Add-ons Manager (about:addons), it says I'm running Flash v. 16.0.0.296, but if I go to your online plug-ins checker (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/), it reports that I'm running v. 16.0.0.305 - which is also what's reported by the Flash applet in the Windows Control Panel.

So can you tell me why there's this difference and how I go about fixing it?

Kind regards, Martin

Hi Martin, those normally are the same.

Have you exited and started Firefox back up again since your last Flash update? It's possible that the Add-ons page has not caught up with what's actually on disk now.

You also could check to see if you have both of those files in the usual place:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

The plugin files used by Firefox follow this naming pattern:

NPSWF32_16_0_0_305.dll

where the four-part version number varies. You only need the most recent if there are multiple matches to that pattern.

Thanks for the swift reply.

I did restart Firefox since the last Flash update, but I just checked the directory you mention, and I do in fact have both DLL- and EXE-files for both versions.

So I think my next step will be to perform a reinstall of Flash and see if that doesn't solve the problem.

After uninstalling, the v. 16.0.0.296 EXE- and DLL-files were still in the mentioned directory, but I was able to delete them as administrator.

However, the files pictured in the attached screenshot could not be deleted, which I find a bit unsettling.

But the reported version numbers after reinstalling are the same, so all is good once again :)

The ActiveX version of Flash Player only works on Internet Explorer or IE and not other browsers as Firefox uses the Plugin based version.
