The emails I receive on Mozilla do not always allow me to proceed with the requested action. For example, today: Air Canada offers 50% more Aeroplan points if you register. The Mozilla version does not show where to register. When I bring up the same page on Internet Explorer, there are two places on the same page where I can click and automatically register. It also happens sometimes when I book a hotel. For instance, there would be nowhere on the Mozilla version to indicate the expiry date of my credit card, thereby nullifying my reservation. I have to go to Internet Explorer and start over and complete my reservation. This has been happening for quite a while. I tried changing the font, the zoom, etc., but the problem persists. Help!!!

Are the buttons absent or merely not visible?

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.

Note that this affects background images.

If this was the problem, would it not also affect the display on Internet Explorer? Anyway, I did what you suggested and it didn't help. By the way, my operating system is indows 7.

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

I am including screenshots. One compares the same Air Canada contest ad as shown on Firefox and Internet Explorer. Firefox offers nowhere to click to participate. Internet Explorer does provide it. I've also included one page from my rogers e-mail account showing the "character not found" symbol. I have the same problem on some other pages when using Firefox. This is not a problem when I use Internet Explorer. Thanks.

Missing icons are usually supplied by a font that is downloaded from the server (@font-face) as you can see by little boxes that show the hex code of the characters.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

You can check the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to true (if necessary double-click the line to toggle its value).

Thanks a lot. It seems to have resolved my problem with the "character not found" issue. I'll have to see future emails from Air Canada to see whether it also brought back the missing parts of their emails.
