104.9.0esr 64-bit: - Profile? What profile? (Lots of email, but the Thunderbird profile is MIA...and the app itself is hiding from me!))

...but discovered when I started looking into switching over to the 145 default release that I have a capital-P Problem. The first thing recommended on making that change is - sensibly - to back up one's Thunderbird profile. Only as far as I can tell, I don't *have* any such file anywhere on my system. [To answer the obvious question - yes, I've got "View" set in File Explorer such that it should be showing me hidden files.]

I have drilled downward through all the USERS subdirectories on my C: drive. "Default" and "Public" have nothing at all (as one might expect). My personal subdirectory has a Mozilla directory under "Roaming", and both a Firefox and a Thunderbird directory therein, but the only things in the Thunderbird directory are an empty folder labeled "Crash Reports" and a tiny "desktop.ini" file.

There is a "Mozilla Firefox" directory under Program Files, but nothing in that hierarchy looks applicable. There is a "Mozilla Maintenance Service" directory under "Program Files (x86)", but nothing there appears relevant. There is a "Mozilla [alpahnumeric hash]" subdirectory under "Program Data", but nothing there appears relevant.

And in fact, I begin to think I have a bigger issue than I thought I did...because the more I poke at my C: drive, the less I'm seeing...to the extent that I'm not at all sure where the Thunderbird program itself (not to mention a quite large accumulation of associated email) is being kept.

Which would be nice to know if one were attempting to back up one's mail before changing program versions....

Previously the system compacted occasionally, but now it's every single time I delete something from the inbox (which happens frequently during the day, of course, sigh).

It's faster and it applies all changes more quickly, that's how it seems right now.

If there are still 32-bit and 64-bit versions available simultaneously, I'll test it sometime. I have no idea what kind of channel that would be.

Problem question:

In Thunderbird 64-bit POP3, the font changes to blue for every second email, including in replies. Can you tell me how to display every email in black? Only the second email in the inbox is displayed in blue, so the text isn't blue when receiving emails. When composing, everything looks black. What do I need to change?

Question 2: Regardless of whether it's 32-bit, 64-bit, or any channel, I see updates to the latest version, and in the program itself, there's an option to view older updates, but everything is white. I only see white and nothing else. Is this intentional? I can't see the update, but it's still current?

When attempting to set up an e-mail account for Zoho e-mail I get an authentication error. It says: "Unable to log in. Probably wrong configuration, username of password." I disabled Account Hub, tried again, but this did not solve the problem, and I get the same authentication error. I tried several other things, using manual configuration, copying instructions from the Zoho website, but none of them worked. They all ended with the error message, "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account." The server and port settings are correct. The username and password are correct. What is the problem?

The error message is "The message could not be sent because we were unable to connect to the outgoing (SMTP) server smtp.gmail.com. The server may be unavailable, or the SMTP connection may have been rejected. Please verify that your outgoing (SMTP) server settings are correct and try again. Problem is I cannot see any mistake in my smtp setting. Some help much appreciated. Thank you.

Recently switched ISPs to a fiber internet company. After the switch, now whenever I try access my comcast email tunderbird gives me a message that my IP is temporarily blacklisted. I get two messages. One is a windows notification that says the blacklisted message, and then a popup message from tunderbird that it cannot log in. I have contacted my ISP to ask them what's up with the blacklist, but what's weird is that I can seem to access these accounts fine through Outlook, which would seem to indicate that there is some issue with tunderbird. I'd really rather use tunderbird than outlook. Can somebody help me with this?

The few articles I could find on this all suggest changing the IPv6 setting but I checked that and it is already set to what they suggest.

I tried deleting the account and recreating it in tunderbird, but it won't go through it says it can't log into the account.

I recently created a Google Workspace account. There, I have a user profile with a custom email address. I've set up the new account in Thunderbird, and it is working as expected. If I send a message from my "external" account to the workspace account, it arrives, and I'm able to reply back.

One feature of Google Workspace is what they call "alternate email" addresses. They sort of work as an alias for the native address. I have created one such alternate. If I send a message from my external account to the alias, it arrives correctly in the workspace account. However, when I reply from the workspace account, it does not go back to the originating address, but instead it is addressed back to the alias. If I repeat the experiment from the Gmail web interface, it replies to the correct address.

I've downloaded all the headers, and the Return-Path tag is correct. I can provide the full header if needed.

It feels like there is an invisible forwarding action to get from the alias to the workspace account, and that the reply action is incorrectly finding the interim alias. But that doesn't really seem to be what I see in the headers - although I'm probably not the most expert reader of those.

And it isn't necessarily a Thunderbird issue. I can see that there could be something going on with Google. But this is a good place to start...  :-)

The other only shows its inbox but no other folders or message. If I test its connection, the account seems to be properly connected.

Next to the two outlook accounts, I have three gmail accounts installed in my Thunderbird. They work without problems.

What could be the problem with the outlook accounts?

For hotmail account, I was able to quickly set up account, read and send emails.

However, the calendar does not show up. It has an enable button which I clicked. But it appears to be a new calendar and it's empty

Search shows to install TbSync and Provider for Exchange ActiveSync. However, it's not available in add-ons/extension (shows as not compatbile with 149).

What else can I do? Don't want to give up this quickly.

After deleting all messages, stopping and restarting Thunderbird, it then downloads the same few - or less - again, no new ones, and the are very old ones. Screenshot shows current situation - several identical messages only. Version 140.8.1 esr on Windows 11 - both up to date. I don't know what esr means !

Can I drag the 'inbox' in the panel back up under my current address where it usually resides? All this happened after I sent 2 photos off my phone to my gmail account to my email address. I prefer to do my emails on my desktop, on Windows 11. Bitdefender says I am safe. I cannot find what version of Thunderbird I have. I typed in 'Thunderbird App menu help' in the search bar on my desktop with no help found. I do not know how to do the 3 lines icon. Pressing the alt key or F10 did nothing. I looked in all the T-bird settings to no avail. So I typed in the 140.8 version just so you would at least get this query. I have no idea what version I have. Very frustrating! Thank you.

Hi, I am hoping that the community can help me find an answer to this. I have two computers that I use for work. The one in the office has TB running all the time and before I leave for the weekend/vacation I would close TB, copy the profile folder to a USB (or copy it to cloud) and then paste the profile folder on my work laptop (at home). While all the settings get copied (local folders structure, addons etc.) as I use IMAP, it downloads all the mail on the new system regardless. I thought that it should have the latest mail downloaded as part of the profile folder, is that not the case? The bigger issue is that none of the Completed Tasks Lists, Templates, etc. get updated. It still shows all the older stuff on the work laptop and no updates carry over from the PC (at work). Going through the profile folder I see multiple copies of the files prefs.js, folderCache.json, global-messages-db.sqlite appended as: prefs-computername.js and folderCache-computername.json etc. (The computername is the name of the PC - office/laptop) The profile name is the same between the two computers. TB is only started after the profile is copied locally. TB version is the same between systems. I am left scratching my head why somethings are copied but not others. Hoping that the community can help me here. Thanks!
