saving multiple tabs
I have been using Firefox with no problems for over a year. Now, yesterday, for the first time, when I turned my computer on and started Firefox, it did not save my multiple tabs! I lost them all! So, after rebuilding and starting all over (including my 3 pinned tabs), I shut down my computer.
This morning, again, same thing. The 11 tabs I had opened did not re-open (just one main tab) and my 3 pinned tabs are again - GONE!
Why is this happening all of a sudden? This is very discouraging. Please provide step-by-step instructions on how to make sure this does not keep happening. I want to save multiple tabs (and pinned tabs) and have them all open whenever I go online please!
Thanks, Cass

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
- do not clear Browsing History
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
- https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
You can try to restore a previous version of the sessionstore.js file.
- right-click: Properties > Previous Versions
- http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Previous-versions-of-files-frequently-asked-questions
I checked and I do not have "clear history" checked off, so I am not sure why it is not saving my tabs.
Right now, I have "Use Custom Settings" chosen, and clearing history box is unchecked.
Any other reason this could be happening?
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
- Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"
"Always use private browsing mode" is also unchecked (and was previously, too).
I just closed Firefox and re-opened, and this time, my few tabs and pinned, too, did open.
How can I ensure that this never happens again, where I lose a ton of opened tabs? It was also strange when this happened a few days ago because normally, if something happens and Firefox closes, when I re-open it, I will get a window that says "Ooops...this is embarassing" and it gives me an option to restore the previous session. This time, no such option came up.
I generally have about 15 tabs open at any one time and want to make sure this does not happen again!
Thanks for the help and support with this, guys!
If you get "Ooops...this is embarassing" then Firefox has crashed or didn't close properly and had tried to recover from this and failed.
If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have this format:
- bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.
- You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open this page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".
See:

You can also check History > Recently Closed Tabs/Windows
Ok, well, so far, so good, but it was that way for a long time before I lost one fairly important session of open tabs and had no way to retrieve it! Ugh!
Is there a good place to find online tutorials for doing basic things on Mozilla, and to learn how to set the most important settings/options?
Thanks!
I was having same problem as you. This is what I did to solve problem for me: - Options -GENERAL tab In the GENERAL tab, look at "Start up" Now look at "When firefox starts" Click on the down arrow and you will see 3 options. Choose: "Show my windows and tabs from last Time."
This worked for me... hope it works for you.
All my settings are set to keep my last browsing session but it still happens. I have had a few crashes were my session was not restored .Unfortunately if you`ve had pinned tabs open for a few months, then they are not in the history when you desperately go into the history trying to retrieve all the tabs you had open (pinned or normal ) I love firefox but when this happens , it makes me want to punch some kittens .
