This happened before.. i used app zapper to remove FF8, then reinstalled FF 7.01.. no issues with 7.01. Verified Addons with Addon checker (everything up to date) Used update channel to install FF8 ... Still Crashing when exiting Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Games. Hardware info... i7-920, 6GB Ram, 1TB HD, Nvidia Graphics. OSX-10.7.2 Lion Fully updated

BTW Appzapper removed everything including profile... ITS NOT PROFILE RELATED.

Still Happens in Safe Mode... Going Back to 7.01 after AppZapping 8.0 .

Must be Related to some change in LION because FF8 works fine on Snow 10.6.8. Perhaps Permissions need to be modified in the Script for FF8, Perhaps Plugin related. Not Sure, but 7.01 Works without Crashing.

On Mac systems with Java version "1.6.0_29" (Java SE 6 Update 29), Firefox 8 will crash after running a Java applet when closing the tab or hitting the back button. This is a new crash that only occurs in Firefox 8 (or above) and is being investigated (bug 700835). Ref: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes#Plugins - Java (Mac OS X)

Thanks, Alice..... I knew it wasnt only me

Please Note: Apple Just released a Java Update for Lion (Not Snow) on 11/08/11. My Guess is the JavaLion update contributes to the problem but is not the whole problem , since Snow was not affected.

Since: -LionJavaUpdate works with 7.01 not 8.0 and -Latest Java On Snow works with Both FF7.01 and FF 8.0

my guess is there were enough changes in Both FF8 and the LionJavaUpdate to make it crash.. Kind of like the Left hand not telling the right hand what the other was doing

I dont know if that helped (others may have already came to the same conclusion), but i thought I should say my conclusion anyway. Hopefully, someone can find the Differences between 7.01 and 8.0 and the Differences Between both AppleJavas and find the exact problem.

Harvey, you're welcome.

The related bug 700835 indicated that Firefox 8 on Mac 10.6 Snow Leopard will also crash with the latest Apple Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update (also released on on November 08, 2011). Based on that, I'm going to delay installing both the Java update AND Firefox 8 on my Mac running OS 10.6.8 until the dust settles.

I checked Apple to see if there was a JavaUpdate for snow.. and you are correct there is a newer one. I am using FF8 and Java 1.6.0.26 on Snow, and FF 7.01 1.6.0.29 on Lion. I am glad I did not update Snow's Java yet. The confusion was The Addon Checker for FF8 on Snow did not tell me that anything was out of date but the Addon Checker on FF8/Lion told me to update.

I Uploaded Images of what each configuration told me. Its interesting that they both tell me that they are up to date but are different versions of java. Note, one says NPAPI Plugin the Other Does Not.

Perhaps that is a clue as to what is going on.

Harvey, It looks like those images are from Mozilla's PluginCheck page. That page often lags behind in detecting that certain plugins are outdated and may report that your version is up-to-date even though a newer version has been released (recent example for Java).

P.S. On the Java plugin name change, Java Plug-in 2 for NPAPI Browsers (Mac OS 10.5 & 10.6) or Java Applet Plug-in (Mac OS 10.7)

That's mentioned in the article Use the Java plugin to view interactive content on websites under "Enabling Java" and was discussed here.

Bug 700835 ([Mac] Firefox 8 and up crash with Apple's latest Java updates for OS X 10.6 and 10.7 closing tab/window containing Java applet) was fixed in Firefox 8.0.1. We've updated Java on our Mac and it's is working fine in Firefox 8.0.1 as far as I can tell.

The problem getting knocked out of Yahoo Games on both Windows and Mac is unrelated to that bug, which was Mac-only. My husband uses Yahoo games to play Euchre on both Windows and Mac and told me he hasn't gotten thrown off the game recently but it happens every so often. Lately, our DSL connection has been having problems (reloading a page seems to help) so loading Java games and other actions have been slow.

try yahoo pino and ff8.01. and investigate yourself. I Have to use alternate browsers to play without getting thrown out. Its not a dsl or network issue, especially if it works without any problems when i use Safari, IE or Older version of FF Browser.

I don't know what "Yahoo pino" is (I don't play Yahoo games that often). Maybe someone else has an answer for you?

"Pino" refers to yahoo pinochle it a card game. I am just trying to document the problem and hopefully Firefox reads this and investigates the issue.
