A few days ago, I accepted an update (Firefox 7.0) and noted some incompatibility with KPM. But it continued to work that day. Now that I have rebooted, I cannot get into any of my financial websites as they are password protected and Foxfire immediately crashes. I need to back up to a compatible version of Foxfire RIGHT AWAY.

I had the same issue yesterday. You will need to disable KPM and manually input your usernames and passwords. Hopefully you have these written down somewhere as I do.
