I may be asking for an enhancement in future releases. I want to be able to access information about recent downloads and sometimes I like to open the downloaded file by "clicking" on it in this window. It would be nice to be able to open this window from a menu selection (perhaps "View" command).

Whatever you are asking is already provided by firefox. To open the DOWNLOAD window go to Tools -> Download. Most of all get the latest version of Firefox.
