My history disappears if the box is closed or I change view sort order. Doesn't come back. Have to start over. Clear history is not checked. Term is 200 days

You can remove the file history.dat. That file is a leftover from an older Firefox version and is no longer used.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
