A month or two ago, there was a big security scare with accessing, e.g., online banking, as there was some sort of new "virus" (I use the term loosely) that was mimicking sites through Firefox. Can anyone confirm that the issue has been dealt with in the latest release(s), so that I can switch back to Firefox for internet banking?

Not sure what you are talking about. As long as you keep your built in antivirus software updated, you should be okay. For more information on Firefox's security features see this linnk
