Hi, I’m sorry to hear about your phone — I’ll explain how Firefox Android backups work in a simple way 🙂
Can Firefox recover your data?
It depends on whether you were signed in to a Mozilla (Firefox) account and had Sync enabled before you lost the phone.
If you were signed in to Firefox
You can recover synced data like:
- Bookmarks
- History
- Passwords
- Open tabs
What to do:
- Install Firefox for Android on your new phone
- Sign in with the same Mozilla account
- Turn on Sync
Your data will automatically restore from Mozilla’s servers.

If you were NOT signed in
Unfortunately:
Firefox does not store backups online without Sync
Data saved only on the lost phone cannot be recovered
Local Android backups usually do not include Firefox browser data
In this case, recovery is not possible.
Important notes
Mozilla cannot manually restore data
Sync must be enabled before the phone is lost
Signing in later does not recover past data
I know this isn’t great news if Sync wasn’t enabled, but this is how Firefox protects user privacy.
If you’re unsure whether you had a Firefox account, try signing in — your data may still be there
Hello!
Could you please explain what should I do in case I cleared the all application data (by mistake)?
Before that I was signed in and the synchronization was on. And now, after signing in and turning the sync on, - I still have 0 in the open tabs counter (and no bookmarks as well).
What's supposed to be the next step to restore tabs and bookmarks that were opened before clearing?
Thank you very much for any help!
