Firefox prevents opening pop up windows

I have an old Mac desktop computer and use firefox as my browser. I go to hotmail and click on and up comes my inbox. I click on an item but nothing opens. then I get a message up top saying firefox prevented the opening of one or more pop up windows. I have changed my password with microsoft. That has not improved things.

Firefox settings -> type "popup" in search -> Open Exceptions... to the right of "Block pop-ups and third-party redirects"

You can add hotmail to this list of websites and set it to allow, or you can unselect "Block pop-ups and third-party redirects" entirely.

Changing your password won't affect this.

Where you see the blocked popup icon or message bar, does Firefox offer the option to save an exception for the site? If not, try using the Page Info dialog:

  • While on the page, press Command+i
  • Change to the Permissions panel
  • Scroll down to "Pop-ups and third party redirects" and un-check the box for "Use Default"
Whoops, in older versions of Firefox, I think the row was labeled "Open pop-up windows"
  • Click the bubble for Allow
  • That's it, you can close the Page Info dialog
