Hi George,
I totally get it. But it's also important to emphasize that you're still in control of your browsing experience with Firefox. More importantly, you can also remove the search engine if you don't want it to appear as an option on your end. More about removing/adding search engine in Firefox Add or remove a search engine in Firefox.

Or, here's an idea, just don't put the flaming bag of poop at my door? I know I can remove it, but why should I have to?
Or I suppose I could just move house (browser) to one that wouldn't even consider putting a flaming bag of poop at my doorstep. That works too
