Hi,

Firefox android provides no master password/primary password protection so passwords in the Firefox password manager are protected only by your lockscreen swipe(yeah, I thought the same thing you just thought).

I need full protection like on Desktop or I can't sync my passwords to Firefox. However, when temporarily enabling password sync on desktop, for example between two desktop devices it also temporarily enables it on android Firefox that you might have synced as well. The upshot of this for me is that I now have all my passwords on android without wanting them there for the above reasons.

So, how do I remove all passwords on my firefox android, without having to reinstall Firefox on the phone?

Hi

If you firstly go into your Firefox Sync settings, you can deselect passwords as an item to be synced. With this done, head to the Passwords option in the Firefox for Android menu and delete all of your saved passwords.

I hope that this helps.

I should have emphasized the fact that I have hundreds of passwords in the password manager. I need a way to delete them ALL at once - just something the equivalent of a simple 'delete al passwords' button.

That is not a feature in Firefox for Android. An alternative approach would be to clear all data from the app and sync back your bookmarks from your desktop copy of Firefox.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I use Firefox Mobile and Firefox Desktop on Linux with Firefox Sync. I didn't want to lose site histories on mobile. The dance I did to remove all passwords on Firefox Android was to:

- ensure passwords are synced on both devices - delete all passwords in Firefox Desktop - tap Sync Now on Desktop - this pulled all passwords back from the phone - delete them again - Sync Now on Desktop - Sync Now on Android - the Sync process should remove the passwords on Android after a few minutes

Maybe I just got lucky. You may need to change the sequence of device 'Sync Now's over a couple cycles. There's no feedback to tell you what's being synced, so it's a bit of a dance.

There's also no fidelity in this method. If you need to retain certain passwords, you must use the export feature on Desktop, find the rows to keep in output passwords.csv, copy the rows to keep to a new CSV, then import them back into Firefox Desktop then Sync devices again.

Like you, I have hundreds of passwords. For curiosity's sake, I exported them all from Firefox then imported into KeepassXC to determine which websites had laughably bad passwords. KeepassXC shows these as red/poor security, which also lets you sort your password library by risk, then you can prioritize fixing the bad ones first. Then, if you want to import your buffed passwords back into Firefox, export the CSV from KeepassXC (fiddle with the headers) or your password manager of choice, then import into Firefox Desktop. Should propagate to your phone in a few minutes.

Search engines and LLMs led me here to your question, with the latter saying it's not possible. But this worked for me. Better workaround that didn't involve doing three+ taps * 450 passwords to delete them all on a phone screen.
