I changed settings in Windows 10 to have family profiles on one computer. When changing the settings Thunderbird was lost. No profile back up was made before the change. The hard drive should be intact but where can I find my old profile, settings and address book??

re :I changed settings in Windows 10 to have family profiles on one computer. Please explain exactly what you had before and after you 'changed settings'.

Do you mean...you originally had one 'User Account' on the Windows 10 computer which everyone logged onto and used and now you have created some additional 'User Accounts' ; one for each person ?

Or do you mean the complete opposite, you had several 'User Accounts' on that computer; one for each person and now you have only the one 'User Account' which you all use? If you mean the latter, have you deleted the other original 'User Accounts' ? Thunderbird profile folders are kept in each 'User Account', so that it offers more privacy - you would need to know the user account password in order to see that person's emails. Emails are stored in profile located here:

  • C:\Users\<Windows user account name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>\

Originally- there was no password to login to windows.

I set up two User accounts but did it in reverse order making my wife the Administrator. I then switched Adm duties to me and deleted her account only to create her account later.

I am hopeful everything is on the HD but the user account which became hers as the first Adm was then deleted.

We both have new user accounts so I do not know where to look for the older Thunderbird stuff.

Does this help?

re :and deleted her account

You would need to try and restore that deleted User Account in order to locate the 'Appdata' folders and files.

You could try performing a Windows restore to an earlier point in time before you created/deleted the accounts. But if you have new emails/documents/images that have been recently added then back them up first.

Then copy paste the Users\<Windows user account name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\ to an external hardrive so you can use it as a backup.
