Can you access the account via webmail/browser on the computer on which TB is installed, not an iPhone or iPad? Or, save the messages in the bad folder to eml files on whatever device can do it; eml files can be easily imported to TB and moved to a new (good) folder for the account.

When I try the procedure suggested the system refuses to hold the tick on the missing folder. Repeated efforts result in the failure continuing so further advice please?

When I open in safe mode the missing Home folder appears momentarily then disappears. When I try to reset it fails to hold the tick to subscribe to that folder. So your further advice please.

Thanks for your latest advice. I have opened a Home2 folder which works OK but, very curiously, neither my iPad nor iPhone will allow me to move messages from the troublesome Home folder (which won't display in Thunderbird) to the new folder so there is something very odd about that file!

Many thanks - yes, after on initial reluctance, the new folder did accept all the files from the apparently corrupted folder. Many thanks for your help - so "over and out"!
