My deleted emails keep disappearing from my trash box, leaving only the last 8-10 deleted emails. This has only started since changing computers.

I changed computers, and altho my Thunderbird account transferred, and I did not change any settings, my trash keeps emptying and leaving me with only 4-6 of the most recently deleted emails. Sometimes I need to go back and retrieve an email from the trash, and can't. I have it set to NOT delete any messages. Just a few minutes ago I clicked on "trash" and WATCHED my deleted emails leave the trash can, leaving me with only the FOUR most recently deleted! Also, since the computer change, my "local folders" stays totally empty.
