Wherefrom* did you download 59 version?

@PavelkoT , downloaded it in 'Downloads' folder then moved to 'root/' all these actions were performed in 'root'

@anuj.coder all you have to do is uninstall firefox esr and download the latest version or the beta or nightly.

i did it like this: i made a folder called Stuff, downloaded 59.0.14 and extracted the tar.bz file in Stuff and it extracted to stuff/firefox/ then you could cd to the directory and type ./firefox & and run that version

you don't need to be root to extract a tar.bz file or run ./firefox &

Perhaps you had a instance of Firefox 52 ESR (52.7.3esr) still running when you tried to start Firefox 59.0.2.

Also you do not need to be as root or su to run the Firefox version you download from www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/. You only need to make sure the user has read/write permissions for the Firefox folder in order to get Firefox updates. If you are the only user then having Firefox in a folder in Home is a easy way.

The Firefox package builds from a Linux distro are third-party as Mozilla does not provide updates for builds they did not well build.

Verify that you meet the System Requirements (GTK+ and GLib) for the current Firefox release.

The Linux system requirements between 52.0 and 59.0 pages are the same.

The last big changes I recall for Firefox on Linux (from Mozilla) is it has required CPU's that supported SSE2 since Firefox 53.0 and Firefox 46.0 and later has required GTK 3.4 (three.four) to run.
