When I try to save or select a file via Firefox - it crashes - no crash reports are recorded - it just stops

This has only recently stated happening - I've tried restarting Firefox with Add Ons disabled and in Firefox safe mode - same result

This is on W7 64

Any ideas gratefully received!

When did this start? With an update?

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?

Yes - I only noticed this in the last couple of days

It works OK in Safe mode, though still the same in normal mode. The sites I'm using, I have used without a problem in the past - it seems to affect any situation where the file browser is shown - when saving a file (eg there was a Flash update (ugh) when I just rebooted) - and as soom as the file browser opens when I select "Save" - Firefox crashes out. When trying to upload a file (to On1 Effects for eg) - the browser is there until I try to select a folder and then the crash happens.
