Firefox automatically routes me to another website

When I go to a particular website (the Chronicle of Higher Education), Firefox automatically routes me to my university's login page. This used to be great since it meant I could read all articles (free and fee-to-view), but I'm leaving the university now and want to be able to read the free articles by going directly to the website. Cannot for the life of me figure out how to turn this function off. Please not that I am *not* on my university's network when this happens. Have searched extensions, proxy's etc. in vain, but can't figure out what is going on. Please help!
