Good morning -PLEASE help - I had numerous e-mails in my inbox that went away - when I opened this am only yesterday's were in there ......I am sooooooooo IT incompetent

as you are incompetent lets start with the obvious.
Check you have not excluded them with the quick filter bar. Make sure it look like the following which is set to exclude nothing.
Especially the unread button. I assume you read your mail yesterday. So it would now be read and invisible if that option was selected.
Here I have set the unread button. The only change you will notice is the subtle blue color on the bar to indicate it it selected.
Likewise if you happened to click on the attachment button all mail without an attachment would disappear. So checking what is shown here is the very first step to trying to work out where stuff vanished to.
