As of today (7/18/2017) Thunderbird gets a timeout error trying to access imap.mail.yahoo.com.
Same problem on two PCs in my office. Windows 10 Mail accesses this server just fine. This is a sudden problem. Have seen to solutions yet. The specific error message that pops up continuously is "Login to server imap.mail.yahoo.com failed."

That should read "have seen NO solutions yet."
There are dozens of threads just like yours. Both here at at the Yahoo forum. No one has figured out what the problem is yet.
Looks like as of this morning, the problem has magically corrected itself.
