I am a new Thunderbird user. I am going through the emails in my INBOX. I have finished reading the first email, now wish to go to the next email. I see no button to jump to the next email, or a "down-arrow", or whatever, allowing me to do this. The answer is probably ridiculously easy, but I cannot find it. Please Help.

That would depend on where you are viewing your messages.

If using the Message Pane, in my opinion the easiest way, the up and down arrows work just fine. You toggle the message pane on and off with the F8 key.

If you open your messages in a new tab or window by double clicking them then you have to learn shortcuts.

N=Next unread message F=Next message (forward)

P=Previous unread message B=Previous message (back)

When I double click on a message it takes over the full window as a new tab, but typing "F" or "B" does nothing at all. I tried typing Shift F and Shift B with no action at all. How do I activate the shortcuts to move to Next or Prev messages?

The shortcuts listed are the standard ones. If you or your system changed them then I suggest you look under the GO menu and see what you have. No place does it say use the SHIFT key.

The single letters F & B work when in the window where the list of emails is, but when I am in the expanded window (new tab), is there a way to go from one message to the next without going back to the standard split window?

From your reply back on May 29th.;

"If you open your messages in a new tab or window by double clicking them then you have to learn shortcuts.

N=Next unread message F=Next message (forward)

P=Previous unread message B=Previous message (back)"

It's the shortcuts that I want to be able to use while in the new tab.

Thanks..

The shortcuts listed work fine for me in a new window or a new tab. I am not sure what your problem is. Did you open a tab and check the shortcuts listed under the GO menu as suggested? If not please do that.

Airmail,

I went to a new tab and looked under GO and the shortcuts are the same as in the main window. So i tried the F & B and this time they worked...!!! I think there is a Ghost in my machine...!!!! He is looking for a hangout until Halloween..!

Thanks...
