The properties button for my hp8600 is unresponsive in firefox. It works fine in internet explorer. How do I fix it?

Clicking the print button in firefox opens the print box with my officejet pro 8600 selected. I often want to print on both sides of the paper, for which, I need to change the setting using the properties button. When I'm in firefox, the properties button is unresponsive so I can print single sided only. The properties button works fine when I'm in internet explorer. I'm using an hp pavilion running windows 7 home premium.
