Issue migrating to Graph API - after login, "Authentication Error - unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password"
Hello,
I'm moving to Graph from EWS and have followed the instructions at: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/microsoft-ews-graph-migration
I get through to screen that offers Graph API as an option, alongside IMAP, POP3 etc, and click on Graph API which directs me to my browser to log in to my email service (via GoDaddy). I log in successfully which takes me to the Thunderbird 'You're All Set' screen saying the account has been securely connected to Thunderbird and therefore ok to close that screen.
Back on Thunderbird it then progresses but returns with "Authentication Error - unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password".
The username and password are correct, and there aren't any other options available when editing/manually configuring the connection...so at a dead end, alas.
Any pointers much appreciated!

I'm adding to this thread: I have the same problem. For giggles, I retried using IMAP, and connected successfully, but only see my inbox. (I have a substantial number of emails in a folder structure on the server that were not shown.)
Hope we can get this sorted out.
Yeah, I have a similarly extensive email folder system, so Exchange was the best setup. And likeyou , I can add my email account to Thunderbird with the other options, including the Exchange configuration option I've always used. It's just the 'Microsoft Graph API' option that results in an error. Annoyingly that is going to be the essential option so really hoping an answer reveals itself soon...
I hope so too. Otherwise, I'll be paying Microsoft for the Office suite, which, as a Mac user, I have little use for.
btw: I'm also using GoDaddy, so it might be a result of the 'school or work' account feature of Outlook.
edit: Naturally, I can use the web version of Outlook, but I prefer a local app with my data cached locally as well.

I am having the same issue as you both.
Developers are looking at this.
Amazing. Thank you. Happy to test any potential solutions as/when ready.
I'm not familiar with GoDaddy's set up, but are you able to view or change the permissions users are allowed to consent to? Or is that managed completely by GoDaddy?
Hi Eleanor - I can access quite extensive options through GoDaddy for managing my domain and Microsoft 365 email service. Is there anything particular we should be looking for?
I can find the 'Exchange Admin Centre', and the settings to allow access by the various protocols. Curiously, Graph API isn't there so perhaps the issue is with the M365 account...

After finding that list of connection protocols in Exchange Admin Centre that did not include Graph, I contacted the GoDaddy support.
The takeaway from the session was that Graph is still being rolled out, so not available universally yet. And EWS will stay active until Graph is fully available.
So shouldn't be anything to worry about - if EWS does get removed for any users, Graph will be available at that point for them to re-connect. I'll probably keep checking it over the coming weeks/months.
For the folks using GoDaddy and want to use Thunderbird GraphAPI, I do have that working with my GoDaddy account and a Graph account added to current Daily release.
Could you perhaps share: 1.) what version of Thunderbird you are using 2.) if you have the previous account still set up with EWS 3.) if you have access to admin permissions in your GoDaddy account
Thanks
Hi Toby,
1) 158.0.1 (64 bit) 2) Yes. Indeed, I am still accessing the email account on Thunderbird over EWS. 3) Yes, I have admin access to the GoDaddy account. I'm the owner and only user.
Does GraphAPI show in your Exchange Admin Centre, alongside IMAP/POP/EWS? Mine shows all but GraphAPI.
No, it doesn't show for me in that list either but I am apparently able to use it. Just to confirm, Are you talking about the one under Mailboxes --> Mailbox A --> Manage email apps settings?
Thanks a lot for your research on this - it will be very helpful or others.
Yes, that's the setting.
Great that you can connect via Graph. It sounds like it's just a matter of time till GoDaddy users like me and others in this thread will be able to as well, and until then EWS should apparently work fine. Guess we'll know by the end of March...
