What is thunderbird desktop and where do i get the thunderbird email account associated with it?
I wanted a new email address so since I've been using firefox for decades. I wanted to try thunderbird. (i tried mailfence it didn't work at all) So i download thunderbird desktop. It doesn't tell me what it is. Although I've used computers for 50 years, I need explanations for new stuff. Your habit of assuming all is obvious and no explanations needed is so annoying and wastes so much time. Thunderbird says includes powerful email. Then it says email not available . go on waitlist. I put in my name. Then it talks about some pro ( thunder email?) that must be paid. None of this makes sense to me Can I or can I not get a new email? Please answer this note so my questions can be answered.

Thunderbird is what is called an e-mail client application. It connects to e-mail accounts that are hosted elsewhere (Google, Microsoft, Apple, internet service providers, et al.) It is not possible to create a brand new e-mail account/address in Thunderbird. The account/address must exist somewhere else already. Thunderbird is free.
Thunderbird Pro, a paid service under development, will offer Thunderbird e-mail addresses and use a new e-mail service ("Thundermail" or "Thunderbird Pro", I'm not sure. The name may have been changed recently.). As you saw, if you are interested in getting a brand new Thunderbird e-mail address, you must put your name on the waiting list.
So, no, you cannot get a new e-mail account/address associated with Thunderbird now. Maybe soon. And it will be part of a paid service.
You can, however, get a new e-mail account/address from Google, Microsoft, Apple, Fastmail (my recommendation, paid) and other services, set up that account in Thunderbird, and use Thunderbird to receive, send, and store messages.
The paid email service Thunderbird Pro is now Thunderbirdmail according to say https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/templatetbproearlybirdinviteonly

new problem: I downloaded thunderbird. When I try to open it, it says Welcome to thunderbird then Sign in with thundermail or Add your email address, but I can't because
"Waiting for authorization in login popup… " fills that space,
and ye old hourglass shows when I hover over it. It doesn't change
Then I clicked on thunderbird menu. It says sign into thundermail or add account. Then its the same as above, when click add account. I can't for the same reason any idea what's wrong thanks
Someone who knows gmail could tell you about the benefits of accessing a gmail account from Thunderbird over using gmail on the Web. I can only say that one benefit is the ability to store messages only on your computer.
