Emails not downloading until inbox is repaired

I am on update channels for both Windows 10 and Thunderbird so both are current versions (1803 and 52.8.0). Since Microsoft's big update to 1803 a few days back, new messages visible in webmail and the TB inbox unread message count are not downloading. When I REPAIR FOLDER in PROPERTIES for the inbox, they download. When TB restarts, they disappear again until the above REPAIR is repeated. In other respects TB seems to be operating normally. I have been a TB user almost since day 1 and have never seen anything like it. Anyone else seeing problems after moving to W10 1803?

A reply to my own question. Somehow, I must have inadvertently clicked on the FILTER button (which I never use). Its default settings started removing emails from the inbox. Repairing the folder somehow retrieved the missing messages, but only temporarily. Strange symptoms.
