What is that little triangle in the Location bar just to the left of the refresh button that turns blue when the mouse hovers over it?

You are probably referring to the location bar history. If you click on that button, a list of websites should appear. This article will give you information on clearing the history.
You should also look at Address bar autocomplete suggestions in Firefox for other cool things you can do with the Location Bar.
