Comcast has sent our accounts to yahoo. Email name remains the same. I wish to continue with Thunderbird. I haven't been able to and don't want to lose all my Thunderbird settings and files. They have been transferred to yahoo mail.

That's fine. All you need to do is setup your account for Yahoo in Thunderbird, using your existing email address. Before starting, make sure cookies are allowed in Thunderbird.
In the main Thunderbird window press Alt or F10 to bring up the menu bar in case it is hidden. Then, File (Alt-F) - New - Email Account Provide your credentials and follow the instructions of the wizard.
