Hi,

I am at my wits end with unmanageable updates.

I do a lot of research online and have tabs open and forms partially filled in a lot. This last week has seen two unavoidable updates that caused me to lose data I'd been working on in forms that did not re-populate. I first had updates set to install only when FireFox was not running, but it forced a restart anyway - and I lost an entire page of data I'd been working on.

So I changed it to let me choose when to install, but it forced a restart anyway. This is with no notice whatsoever. I open a new tab, and it says I need to restart to keep using FireFox - at that point, every tab I go to will not let me use it. I didn't even know an update had downloaded in the background.

This is a new behavior; I used to have a choice when to download (but not when to install). I'm sure I'm missing something - but what?? Can anyone help with any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Every damn time Firefox decides to update, it deletes every single one of my Stylus themes. And yet long standing issues like the Bookmark Tool Bar going blank if you watch video in full screen for too long still exist (10+ years now).

Also, whenever Firefox updates, it royally screws up the session that was active. Instead of opening every window and tab that was open, most of the time only one window gets restored. Sometimes none of the windows get restored because Firefox stupidly opens and then closes again, and then when it opens again, all you get is a page telling you about the stupid feature you don't care about that Firefox updated and ruined everything for.

THE ISSUE: When opening Firefox, (Attachment #1 - below) appears. Seems to have nothing to do with any reality . . . as when I check in SETTINGS (Attachment #2 - below). 1. So, who's telling the truth? 2. How do I stop the popup (Attachment #1) from making it's nagging, inaccurate appearance?

Thank you / Nels

Apparently Windows 11 won't upgrade from v23H2 to 24H2 because the very nice cpu (and system) don't support SSE4.2 or PopCnt instructions. While v23H2 won't get updates after November of 2025, I tend to use operating systems WAY beyond no more updates without problems, and only upgrade when browsers no longer update and support some websites, notably banking and credit card sites, for example.

Any way to get at least a rough idea of when/how long Firefox will continue to update on Windows 11 23H2 so I can plan ahead? Usually it's a year or 2 or more after Microsoft stops updating the OS.

Thanks.

Hi -- Not a major issue, but for a while now each firefox.exe version installs itself in a new directory, requiring me to recreate its desktop shortcut. This is new behavior; I never needed to do this previously.

So I end up with

 C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Mozilla.Firefox_139.0.4.0_x64__n80bbvh6b1yt2\VFS\ProgramFiles\Firefox Package Root
 C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Mozilla.Firefox_142.0.0.0_x64__n80bbvh6b1yt2\VFS\ProgramFiles\Firefox Package Root
 C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Mozilla.Firefox_142.0.1.0_x64__n80bbvh6b1yt2\VFS\ProgramFiles\Firefox Package Root

The most recent update went to

 C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Mozilla.Firefox_143.0.0.0_x64__n80bbvh6b1yt2\VFS\ProgramFiles\Firefox Package Root

Can you advise.

Thanks!
