In Firefox for Mac version 44.0.2, I can open some bookmark folders while others cannot be opened. Under 'Show All Bookmarks', the contents of the folder that I cannot open are all there and can be opened. I confirmed that the places.sqlite file was not locked. I stopped Firefox, renamed the places.sqlite file, restarted Firefox but problems was not resolved. Thanks in advance for your help.

Where can't you open these folders? Is that on the Bookmarks Toolbar or possibly in the sidebar?

It's strange, when I click on Bookmarks in the menu bar, I can see the contents of several Bookmark folders and cannot view the contents of several other Bookmark folders. Under Show All Bookmarks, I can view the contents of every single Bookmark folder and open the bookmarked web page.

I tried refreshing Firefox but it did not resolve the issue.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

The places maintenance add-in did not detect any issues with places db. I removed the places.sqlite files, all bookmark backups and restarted Firefox. Now with no bookmarks, I imported an html bookmark export from November 2015 and now all bookmark folders work properly. Would like to know what caused Firefox to behave in this manner. Thanks for all of your help.
