firefox update screws up my fingerprint reader so it quits working

when firefox updated recently the fingerprint reader on my hp envy laptop running windows 8, quit working took me awhile and 2 restores to figure it out. plus now i disabled automatic update but when i reboot its back on, updates and crashes my fingerprint reader, been a loyal firefox user for many years, never had a problem before, seems like all the recent updates cause problems
