Since installing firefox 12.0 from 9.01 it has set firefox as the default browser(but before wasn't), so I want to reset back to not being my default browser, and the question to be asked if I want it as default

You need to check the preferred applications (e.g. gnome-default-applications-properties) in Kubuntu and set another browser as the default browser if you do not want Firefox to be that.
