There seems to be a problem with the latest flashplayer. Maybe it's a happy coinsidence it started when you upgraded your os version. Did you upgrade flash at the same time? If so, installing an older version of flash might solve the problem. Here is an archive with an older flashversion for all os/browsers: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp_11.1.102.63_archive.zip First uninstall your current flashplayer, then install the one for your sytem from the archive. Hope this helps.
Hi KeiraTG--
The archived Flash did not solve the problem. Interntet videos do work with Chrome, but I prefer Firefox
Is the Flash plugin loaded when you right-click that black area?
Which version of the Flash plugin do you have?
Hi cor-el--
I have version 11.2.202.235. As I said in my original note to which KeiraTG first responded, I have had this problem for over a month now. It has existed with two versions of Ubuntu, 11.10 and 12.04. The Flash version I am trying now is an older one. The newest one does not work either. When I left click to view a video, the video screen comes up black, and the video does not load. Right clicking on the black screen only brings up a pop up menu. Should there be a specific plugin for 11.2.202.235? Among my Mozilla plugins the only one which is a Flash product is Shockwave Flash. Thanks.
If you do see the regular context menu and not the Flash player context menu when you right-click the area where it should appear then that means that the plugin isn't loaded.
What does the Adobe test page say?
Make sure to install the 32 bit version of the Flash plugin with a 32 bit Firefox version.
Hi cor-el
After I last wrote to you, I removed 11.2.202.235 and all its associated configuration files and reinstalled gnash which I recalled was removed when an Ubuntu update installed a new version of Flash. Gnash makes use of 10.1.999.0, and it works so I now can load the Internet videos. The test page verifies I have 10.1.999.0 but suggests I should be using 11.2.202.235 which does not work. Both the 11.2.202.235 and Firefox are 32 bit.
While it might be prudent to leave well enough alone and stay with the 10.1.999.0, I want to know why the new version does not load. Any further suggestions? Thanks
