Example is certain IBM websites. They all seem to be jsp pages. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v1r1/index.jsp No output or error messages are displayed at all. Page is completly blank. There are many such IBM we pages which do not display. These all work in IE and google Chrome (but I want to use firefox)

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Did you check that your firewall isn't blocking such sites?

Works for me. Try safe mode and clearing your cache.

Try downloading the page with another browser and try opening the downloaded file.

Thanks John,

Tried all the standard stuff before I posted the question. Clearing cache, other browsers etc. It works for me from firefox in linux (booting from same PC to different partition), and from other browsers on the same OS, so has to be a setting or plugin somewhere which I cant find. The issue is not just one page but several.

Regards, Daryl

I initially tried from Linux and as I said it worked. I would not expect Windows necessarily to differ but I have since tried it with Firefox 13 on a Windows 7 partition and that also worked.

Did you try my suggestion of using an alternative browser to download the page you initially linked to and then tried to open that page from the local drive, it at least gives you some additional control.

If the problem is on windows have you tried Windows own safe mode (usually acessible by using the F8 key). An obvious factor on Windows that may not be identical on Linux may be the use of Security software; have you tried disabling or even uninstalling security software. (That may be safer if testing off-line e.g. with a local file).

Thanks Cor-el,

New profile fixed it. Unlikely to have been firewall/AV software as other browsers would have been blocked too.

Cheers.

I've had this problem with the IBM websites as well, interestingly it started happening on my system on Chrome (18.0.1025.168 ) (linux) and not on Firefox. Thankyou Cor-el for suggesting the solution of deleting the profile, which also solved it for the Chrome browser (ie deleting Chromium's default profile). I guess this suggests that the root cause is not at the browser end. (I have struggled with this problem for a long time before hitting on this answer ) . (It does not seem to be related to anti-virusor firewall as I had tried disabling them). It is also not platform dependent as I have seen on Linux and Windows.
