when thunderbird starts it also brings up an McAfee ad which cannot be removed without closing thunderbird
The ad says AOL on top. then activate your license now with a McAfee Logo, then antivirus software needs your attention. Your credit card has failed update it now. With a Login for AOL. I have uninstalled the app and reinstalled, ran all the antivirus apps I have and still no luck. Should I just uninstall the app and then go into AppData and delete the Thunderbird Folder?

What I suspect you are seeing is an AOL oAuth authentication window which oddly enough Yahoo have sold advertising space on. (Great provider Yahoo, Not. But they provide all the infrastructure for AOL mail these days.)
