Can I delete an email marked as spam from the spam folder straight away, or does Thunderbird still need it for training purposes?

Once you have marked a message as Spam or Not Spam, the database is informed and that message is no longer needed.

In the case of IMAP accounts, most email providers will automatically delete messages in its Spam folder after some set number of days, so I usually just ignore the matter and let them take care of it.
