Performance issue 30% to 100%
I am running TB. Using the Windows Performance Monitor, the usage jumps from 30% to 90% and then 100% once TB is open. I am running 1.128.14.0esr (64-bit). I have the before and after screenshots of the CPU, see attached. Is this known behaviour?
I tried the steps at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiling-thunderbird-performance to record. The Multiprocess Browser Toolbox window hung the 2nd time (the first time, nothing happened after Capture recording), then I left it 20 minutes and came back to the message that we were unable to connect to the browser within 30 seconds. It eventually finished, painful - htpps://share.firefox.dev/41tZ5xy

Disable "Use hardware acceleration when available" if it was enable to see if it helps.
It's in Setting, General, scroll down to "Indexing" toward the very end of the page

I should say this performance issue has crippled my machine for years, making it unusable. Only this week I figured out it runs fine if I do not use TB.

Thanks, Michel T! That was set. I turned it off.
I have only 8GB of RAM, two cores and four logical processors (Intel M-5Y71). I have not used the machine much lately, as mentioned, but circumstances require me to do so now!
I also discovered Firefox was hogging big time as well as TB. With AI's help, I turned on " Use hardware acceleration when available in FF performance settings also. I also added/changed these in about:config:
- browser.tabs.remote.autostart = true
- browser.tabs.remote.autostart.1 = true
- browser.tabs.remote.force-enable = true
- dom.ipc.processCount = 2 (was 8)
- dom.ipc.processCount.webIsolated = 1 (was 4)
And I installed the UnloadTabs extension, which has an option to unload other tabs.
Things look promising, 🤞 it stays usable
