I need to revert to a previous version of Thunderbird that supports image resizing. Dropbox etc are not a viable solution I'm afraid.

Please send me a link to revert my Thunderbird version to one that supports image attachments resizing. Current version does not and there is no compatible add-on for it.

Brilliant! All sorted and thank you very much to sfhowes and the shrunked originator and the shrunked latest updater.

It works fine. Before asking this question I checked to see if there was an alternative add-on to "Shrunked Image Resizer (Disabled)" and the result of the search was "No results found for “Shrunked Image Resizer” " (see attached below, and note that there used to be another very handy but now defunct resizer named "Auto Resize Image"). So then I posed my question to you folks and received your helpful replies. Perhaps there should be a connection made between the alternative add-on search function and the website you pointed me to to get the new version.

But my main question remains — why is this function of easily reducing jpegs not fully integrated into Thunderbird? Surely it's something practically all Thunderbirders would often use.

Anyway, thanks very much for your help in getting this extremely useful add-on back in my email life. It's really quite indispensable.

Chris

Lot's of add-on users ask the question "why isn't it built in".

Add-ons fill holes that product developers (which includes the universe of community volunteers) have not recognized as a problem or decided to spend time on. And if the add-on didn't then you wouldn't have this functionality. Conversely, if all add-ons were integrated into Thunderbird that would mean less time spent on the features and problems helping and affecting most users. It is also possible in many cases for an add-on author to create a native in-product solution and then be able retire the add-on. Either way, there is a cost to one or more person's time an energy.

Got it! I really do appreciate that Thunderbird and Firefox come from a great volunteer community, and I'm grateful for all their work. If I had the knowledge required to "create a native in-product solution" then I'd do it, but alas... So, in the end does it actually boil down to some $€ being needed to create such a solution, because if so, I'd be willing to make a donation to that end.

There is not a feature bounty program. But we do accept general donations, via the Help menu.
