Mail disappears
When I delete mail from the inbox to the trash folder the mail disappears, but the counter still shows the mail is in the folder. I suspect that I have a profile problem but I have no idea how to fix it.

Sounds like you need to either compact the folder, or if it is IMAP set the account to expunge on exit as well.
- Right-click the Inbox or Trash (or affected) folder.
- Select Properties.
- Click the "Repair Folder" button.
- Wait for Thunderbird to rebuild the index.
- Close and reopen Thunderbird to verify if the count is corrected
