I have just had a new PC and downloaded FIrefox as my preffered browser but when Outlook.com for my mail the automatic spell check no longer works. If I use the latest IE browser it works fine??

Hi John, you can install a UK English dictionary to tune spelling suggestions to local usage. The following support article describes how to add a dictionary and switch to it: How do I use the Firefox spell checker?

Open a new window or tab. In the address bar, type about:config. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Enter layout.spellcheckDefault and press enter. Look at its value. I think it should be 2.

I did as suggested and changed the value from 1 to 2. Closed and restarted Firefox but the problem remains spell check still does not work. I have also tried the Chrome browser and as IE there is also no problem. It appears specific to Firefox?

The last time I looked at this it was a mess: Spell checker quirky running Outlook mail with Firefox. At that time, if you backspaced, the error marking would get removed from misspellings, and accepting one correction would remove the wavy underlines from other errors. Is that still happening?

Hopefully Microsoft will straighten it out. Until then, one inconvenient workaround is to right-click and turn off Check Spelling, then right-click again and turn Check Spelling back on.

I don't even get the wavy red lines under a mis-spelt word. Unless someone can come up with a solution it looks like I will be another user leaving Firefaox behind and going over to Chrome ?

Hi John, I can't tell what's wrong with that site. It behave strangely in multiple respects, like clearing wavy red underlines if you backspace, or if you backspace while it is saving a draft, or if you accept one correction it may clear other underlines. I've never seen any other mail site behave this way.

The workaround I mentioned (turn spell checking off and back on again using the right-click context menu) should show the underlines until they get cleared again, but it's a hassle.

Thanks for your eplies. I have followed your all your instructions but I'm afraid the problem still remains and appears to only with the Firefox browser.

I have just noticed that Spell Check is not working here as I type this reply. I have looked in Tools>Options>Advance>General and checked that "Check my spelling as I typed" is ticked, which it was.

I have now searched this site further and found that there appears to be an issue with spell check not supporting English(UK) only English (US) ??

Perhaps, for now, us the settings that work until a fix shows up.
